WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHY - WYNN PHOTO – Timeless weddings from a visual journalism background

WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHY

HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR SHOOTING STYLE?

My style is more editorial and documentary, focused on those precious moments and emotions that are timeless. My career has been focused on telling documentary-style human interest stories through visual narratives. While a single image may tell a thousand words, a series of images will speak volumes. My style is to travel light, blend in and tell your story from the inside, only this way can people truly understand the emotions, feelings and situations.

OK! GREAT! WE LOVE YOUR STYLE, HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?

There are three levels from which to choose for the investment in your wedding photography.

1) DOCUMENTARY. This budget-friendly plan is almost exclusively imaged in beautiful black and white as a documentary that captures all the moments and emotions of the other plans. This plan is geared to developing a beautiful visual narrative of your day and is seven hours of coverage. $2,000 + tax.

2) FEATURE STORY. This package is filled with emotional moments captured during the day, all the details of getting ready and all the separate storylines that develop during the day. This package is geared to those who wish a mix of black and white, colour. You will also receive a PhotoVideo of two minutes in length that you can share with family & friends and post to social media. This is an 8 hour day of coverage. $3,000 + tax.

3) EXCLUSIVE FEATURE. This is a package that pulls all the elements of visual storytelling together is a richly photographed narrative which features black and white moments, colour and a PhotoVideo of four minutes in length. This package includes an engagement session of two hours within an hour of the GTA. This coverage is for 9 hours. $4,000 + tax.

If more time is required, the fee is $150 per hour. To get things started I require a $150 non-refundable deposit to schedule and hold your date in my calendar. Travel and expenses beyond 2 hours travel from Toronto are extra. Once your day is booked, we will sit together and get the photography contract done, then talk more specifically about your plans and any special things you have planned that I will need to know about.

If yours is a multi-day wedding, I can accommodate that as well and we can discuss this when we meet to talk about wedding details.

I WOULD LIKE YOU TO PHOTOGRAPH OUR WEDDING. HOW DO WE BEGIN?

First of all, congratulations! You can reach me through my Contact page on this website. Please give me some initial information such as your contact information including phone number, wedding date and the venue. I will respond by email to introduce myself and to arrange a time to meet you in person. When we meet, you will have a chance to ask any questions you like. At that time, I can go over over the photography contract in detail so that everything is clear. You can sign the wedding photography contract then to hold the wedding date.

WHY DO I NEED A CONTRACT AND WHO SIGNS IT?

Any service you hire will have some form of contract outlining terms, conditions and the scope of work. A contract is there to protect all parties involved and to keep the intent and focus of your special day on track. Your contract will have all the details noted and spelled out in clear, understandable language! Our contract will be between you both and with me. The contract states that you alone are hiring me, not other family members or friends. Your expectations and wishes will be clearly noted and I will go out of my way to see that your wishes are met as outlined.

WHAT IS AN ENGAGEMENT PHOTO SESSION?

Once you have announced your engagement, and any time after, I can provide an engagement photo session so that you may share your exciting news with friends near and far through social media. An engagement session is informal and fun. It is also a perfect opportunity to become more comfortable in front of the camera. I will teach you posing positions that look natural and will show you to be relaxed and comfortable. Engagement sessions begin at $500 for 3 daytime hours and two locations that are no more than a 1/2 hour apart. Longer sessions with more locations are also available as are night sessions. Photography permits may be required for some locations, these will need to be acquired by you for the day we plan to shoot. Please also have a back-up plan in case the weather does not cooperate!

WE LOVE YOUR WORK AND WANT TO BOOK YOU! IS THERE A DEPOSIT?

I require a 25% deposit non-refundable deposit on the photography plan you select on the day you sign the photography contract. The balance of the wedding photography plan chosen is due on the day of your wedding by e-transfer.

HOW MUCH TIME IN ADVANCE SHOULD WE BOOK YOU?  6 - 12 months in advance is typical, or as soon as you know the wedding date and venue. If you are excited to be married earlier, great, contact me for availability and we can work something out. • Details of fees are outlined in the wedding contract.

WILL YOU BE THE ONE TO SHOOT OUR WEDDING?

Absolutely! You are hiring me for my style and visual storytelling. Nobody else will be shooting under my name. I will hire a second shooter on occasion to help cover some of the formal photos and to capture different perspectives, freeing me to stay focused on capturing your special day in my own style. If there is some situation such as medical emergency or other serious reason I am unable to shoot, I will have a selected photographer I know and trust to shoot in my place.

WHAT DO YOU WEAR TO WEDDINGS?

I like to fit in so that guests are not aware I am there as your photographer. I will be wearing comfortable and appropriate clothing that allows me to move easily and blend in. The greatest proof of this is when a guest asks, “Which family are you with”? One of my superhero skills is disappearing so people never notice me while I work! Kind of like a ninja with a camera!

DO YOU EAT AT THE WEDDING?

Absolutely! Being tightly focused on everyone, capturing moments and trying to be everywhere, at all times is tiring and I will need to keep fuelled! Wedding reception venues will often have a vendor table set up where I can eat while keeping observing special moments, speeches or other happenings to photograph. It must be said that I NEVER photograph people while they are eating – it's just not a good look – and they would not appreciate it!

DO YOU DRINK AT THE WEDDING?

I need to stay hydrated, so I drink water and other non-alcoholic beverages. While I am shooting for you, I am also working and it is not appropriate for me to drink alcohol.

WHERE ARE YOU BASED AND DO YOU TRAVEL?

I am based in Toronto. If your wedding is beyond a two hour drive of the city, please see the next question.

DO YOU SHOOT DESTINATION WEDDINGS?

I love to travel! But rarely will I do a destination wedding as there are many issues to deal with internationally. Presently, I will not shoot any weddings of engagements in the United States as to do this legally, I would need a temporary work visa in order to work as a foreign worker in the United States.

If you wish me to shoot in any other country, we can speak specifically about this and try to work out timing and expenses.

WE HEARD SOME WEDDING VENUES REQUIRE VENDORS TO HAVE INSURANCE. WHAT’S WITH THAT?

True! Many wedding venues and locations will require vendors, photographers included, to carry liability insurance. I am covered for up to 1 million dollars at any location I shoot. If your venue requires proof of liability insurance, just contact me and I can send you a proof copy.

WHEN ARE THE FORMAL PORTRAITS TAKEN?

If you are one of the rare couples who wish the formals photos shot before the wedding, fantastic! We can do those before the wedding, allowing you to relax after the ceremony with your guests. Most people will have the formals done immediately following the ceremony if there is sufficient time. These are important images for family members and enough time should be allowed for them.

WILL YOU TAKE “GETTING READY” SHOTS?

Yes! These are some of the most intimate photos of the day. Capturing the special moments when the bride, mother and bridesmaids get ready are lovely moments. These will be special images to treasure as are those fun times with the groom and his groomsmen. As well, it is also a peaceful time for you while you quietly go over your vows and savour some quiet moments before the wedding begins.

AT THE RECEPTION, DO YOU SHOOT THE FIRST DANCE AND OTHER DANCE SHOTS?

Who doesn't love a good party?! The first dance is iconic and I will be there to capture those moment now that the wedding is over and you are relaxed while your family and friends look on. During the rest of the dance, I will be looking for and capturing laughs, tears, expressions and other emotions. You probably will never see me, but I will see you!

I SEE YOU SHOOT A LOT OF BLACK & WHITE. WILL ALL OUR PHOTOS BE BLACK & WHITE?

I absolutely love the richness and timeless quality of black and white images. And of course, colour is important as well and helps tell a story. My rule of thumb is that for images that are all about colour, then those images will be colour. Imagine the beautiful colours of a Chinese or South Asian wedding, these will absolutely be in colour to do them justice. But when it comes to documenting the emotions and special moments between people, black and white is preferred. This has a classic, timeless quality and focuses more on the moment. In these images, colour acts more as a distraction to a beautiful look, a tear or a kiss.

WHEN AND HOW WILL WE GET TO SEE OUR WEDDING PHOTOS?

Within 12 hours I will send you 5-6 images for you to share with family and friends in person or on social media. Your remaining photos will take 1-2 months to be edited and processed, often quicker than that! All images will be processed individually and put into an online password-protected gallery for you to download and share. These images will be enhanced JPG images.

HOW MANY IMAGES DO YOU SHOOT?

The number of photos shot and the number delivered vary. A typical 8-hour wedding may yield 2,000 - 4,000 images. After tightly editing, the number of delivered images can be around 500 - 800. When I see a particular scene, I will often shoot it several ways. When I edit, I will choose the best image of a group and that image passes to you. The other redundant images are stored as back-ups and as images that fill out a PhotoVideo (see below). If the wedding is longer than 8 hours or it is a multi-day wedding, the number of images is much greater as are the delivered images.

HOW ABOUT VIDEO? DO YOU SHOOT VIDEO?

As I am a documentary photographer, I do not shoot video. It is also my experience that video, for its cost, is rarely seen more than a few times. What I do provide are PhotoVideos where you will have a 2-4 minute film that highlights the big moments, small details and all the other moments between guests and the venue that you will never have seen! This is also a time to see many of the images that may not have made the final edit. Almost like a behind-the-scenes reel. Carefully chosen music and image pacing will make this a video that you will watch over and over as well as share. It also has the advantage of being much smaller in size so that all can view it, even those with slower bandwidth or on mobile devices.

CAN I SEE AN EXAMPLE OF A PHOTOVIDEO?

Sure thing! Here is an example of a wedding PhotoVideo.

DO YOU OFFER PHOTO ALBUMS?

I do not offer wedding albums as part of my wedding photography plans. However, I can make recommendations and exceptions beyond the wedding photography plan you choose.

WILL OUR PHOTOS BE PUT ONLINE?

Aside from your own private gallery, I will put a small portfolio selection of highlight images on my site and social media platforms as portfolio images to celebrate your wedding as well as for attracting future clients.

WHAT ELSE SHOULD WE KNOW ABOUT YOU?

I have two different coloured eyes! My musical tastes range from opera to Guns ’n’ Roses and everywhere between, though Moby is a fave! The Chinese Government is a fan of my documentary and event sent me to Tibet to freely document life there – A rare thing for a working journalist at the time! I have also lived in an Indian slum to photograph a two-year news feature. As for films, I will never tire of watching, The Hunt For Red October ! I have 52 screws and lots of structural scaffolding in my left leg which is always fun at the airport!
